I have an HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop. It came with Windows Vista installed. When I got it it was not loading Windows Vista because of some sort of shut down problem. I clean installed Windows 7 Professional 32-bit version. I have been having a few different problems with it, and I think they are all interrelated some how. My main issue at the moment is that it is not even rocognizing that I have any audio hardware. The speaker icon has a red x on it in the system tray and when I put my mouse over the icon it says, 'No Audio Output Device is installed.' I went to HP's website and downloaded the driver for the audio. When it gets to the end of the install it says, 'Driver Installation Failed: Could not find the MEDIA device for this driver.' The device is a Conexant High-Definition Audio Chip. When I go into the Device Manager, there is not an audio device even listed like it is not even there. There are, however, three devices listed under 'Other Devices.' There are two 'Base system devices' and a 'Coprocessor.' All three I cannot get drivers installed for and they have a yellow exclamation mark. I noticed when I have the device manager pulled up and I try to install the Conexant HD driver, it goes to the 'Other Devices' like it's trying to use it for those. Since the sound is on board, I think these other devices may not be recognized because of the same reason, whatever that may be. The internal speakers do not work, nor can I plug in headphones or external speakers and get them to work. I also tried going into the BIOS to see if maybe my sound was disabled from there, but there is no option for sound at all. I saw something about someone updating their BIOS and the sound worked, but the one listed from HP says it's not for my computer (because I no longer have Windows Vista??). I also tried the Windows Toubleshooter and it says ,'Hardware changes may not have been detected.'

Z420 Sas Controller Driver Missing
I had just about given up on this thinking it was a hardware problem, but the other day I turned on my laptop and it had sound. All of the sudden the hardware was there. The only thing I had to do was reinstall the conexant driver for it because it was using the Windows mixer system and it was not allowing me to control the volume properly on the Internet. The next day, I turned it on and the sound was still good. There were some Windows updates available, so I installed them. After the restart, the sound was gone again. Same problem as before. I tried to do a system restore to before I did the update, but it didn't help. I did some looking around to see if anyone else had this problem, and it seems common for the sound to just come and go even in Windows Vista on this system. My mother, who had it before said the sound worked fine before it crashed with Windows Vista.
